■ the second nearest planet to the sun
　太陽から2番目の惑星
■ it is peculiar in that its rotation is slow and retrograde (in the opposite sense of the Earth and all other planets except Uranus)
　回転が遅く逆行する（天王星を除く地球と他の全ての惑星と反対方向に）という点で、特有である
■ it is visible from Earth as an early `morning star' or an `evening star'
　「明けの明星」あるいは「宵の明星」として地球から見られる
e.g. )
・before it was known that they were the same object the evening star was called Venus and the morning star was called Lucifer
　宵の明星はビーナスと呼ばれ、明けの明星はルシファーと呼ばれていたが同じものであることが以前知られていた
